The 427 has longer stroke, that will give you more lugging power and start a load easyer. If you think about the 366 is not much more than a 350. If I remember right the 427 has about 25 or 30 horse over the 366. I have run both and the 366 is a dog after running a 427.The 366 was a good rental truck engine, but if you had to have a gasser, the 427 was a much better choice. They started using the 'Vortec' 454 instead of the old 366 and 427 starting in 1998 or so, and those pump out about 270 h.p. in medium duty trim, which ain't bad for a gasser.
